This is a blog about reading, writing and translation. It is also a bilingual blog. Some posts will be in English, some in Italian and some in both languages.

Questo è un blog sulla lettura, la scrittura e la traduzione. È un blog bilingue. Alcuni post saranno in inglese, altri in italiano e alcuni in entrambe le lingue.

 

Me

I was born and brought up in Northern Italy but my mother is English. When I learnt to speak, I learnt to speak both Italian and English. So translation was part of my life long before I even knew what translation was. As I grew up I found out that I loved reading and writing and eventually I chose literary translation as a career path. I studied it at MA level both in Italy and the UK and now I have moved on to a PhD. Getting into the professional world of translation, however, was not easy. I have been working as a translator only for a few years and I managed to get started only through perseverance and a bit of luck. I don’t translate as much as I would like to and most of the time I don’t translate the kind of things I would like to. But I translate.

Sono nata e cresciuta nel Nord Italia ma mia madre è inglese. Ho imparato a parlare l’italiano e l’inglese contemporaneamente. La traduzione, quindi, è parte della mia da ancora prima che sapessi cosa fosse. Crescendo ho scoperto di amare leggere e scrivere e alla fine ho deciso di dedicarmi alla traduzione. Ho studiato traduzione letteraria a livello di Master, sia in Italia che in Inghilterra, e ora sto facendo un dottorato. Ma entrare nel mondo della traduzione professionale non è stata cosa facile. Lavoro nel campo solo da qualche anno e sono riuscita a entrare in questo mondo solo grazie a una certa dose di perseveranza e  a un po’ fortuna. Non traduco quanto vorrei e molto spesso non traduco il genere di testo che vorrei tradurre. Ma traduco.
